The photo above is of seven women playing field hockey on Wagner field. The woman in the center had just lifted the ball through the space between the two players in front of her. The ball was visible just leaving the frame on the lower right-hand corner. The women were all dressed in gym suits and wearing shin guards. It was unclear whether this was a class, a club, or intramurals. On p. 120-121, "On warm days, up Babcock way, girl athletes swarm the grounds. Tennis balls whiz into the net, arrows skirt the bull's eye, hockey sticks tangle with each other, golf balls hop over the course."In winter, the athletes scurry into the gym where volleyball and basketball capture first place in a keen intra-dorm competition. Badminton, swimming, fencing, tumbling, and modern dance kept muscles sore and the figure slim. All were dressed in gym suits which look to be one piece and had belts, a skirt bottom, and shorts or bloomers underneath. Hard to tell who was on what team as all look to be dressed alike. One woman in the back had on a different color suit. All women wore mid-length shin guards and had English toe [long-toed] field hockey sticks. The administrative head at the time was Kathleen Lowrie.
