This was a cover page for athletics, 1903-1904. It illustrated a man and a woman playing tennis in the upper left-hand corner. The word "Athletics" was written across the center of the image. A woman was swinging a golf club in the bottom right-hand corner of the illustration. A young boy was caddying and a couple looks on from afar. It was an interesting choice for the section on Men's Athletics. Golf and tennis were among the most accepted sports for women at this time, reflecting upper-class recreational pursuits for women. The woman in top illustration had sleeves rolled up, a practice pioneered by Eleo Sears, one of the prominent female athletes of this era. Photos exist in Index of both sports being played at Wooster by women during this time frame. Both women were wearing long sleeve blouses and long skirts. The tennis player was her sleeves rolled up. Their hair was long and pulled back in similar styles.
