First Season for Girls' Volleyball, 1966-67

First_Season_for_Girls_Volleyball_196667.jpg

The image above is of the girls' volleyball team. Believe it or not, it was a varsity sport for the girls on the Hill. And believe it or not, for the first season they bounced up a winning record of 4-2. Carolyn Hole was team captain, and a fine play was turned in by Carolyn Smith, Kay Harley, and Penny Hough. The netballers scored their most impressive victories over Mount Union and Capital. Penny Hough was selected as captain for next year's team and five of this year's starters will be returning to the budding sport for women. The Women's Uniforms looked like white blouses and black shorts. Players are identified in the caption above the photo. Coach Ginny Hunt is in the dress on the far right of the frame. She was the first varsity volleyball coach for women at Wooster and the first Women's Athletics Director. The administrative head at the time was Virginia Hunt.
