The picture features, junior Annie Baird was bumping the volleyball. This was one of three photos on two pages for the 1972 Women's Volleyball team. The caption on the page was:"Volleyball: A game, usually played in a gymnasium, the object of which is to keep a large ball in motion, from side to side over a high net, by striking it with the hands before it touches the ground.” This sport was the only women's sport that was not gender marked as "Women's" in this 1973 volume. Annie Baird was a three-sport athlete in volleyball, basketball, and lacrosse, and was inducted into the "W" Association Hall of Fame in 1985, the first time a woman was inducted into the Hall. The Wooster uniform included a Black Kilt, numbered shirts, knee pads, and Adidas volleyball shoes. The administrative heads at the time were Maria Sexton and Nan Nichols.
