An innovation in the W.A.A. this year was the formation of a modern dance club or orchesis society. Nancy Fischer was the first manager and took responsibility for much of the initial organization work. The first row depicts; L. Martin, Burt, Howard, Kinsey, Bucklin, Kassebaum, Jane McAfee. The second row depicts; M. Louch, Marjorie Gillespie, Dengler, P. Johnston, Trumbull. Third Row: Caler, Goldsword, Boyer, Leber, Cross, McArdle, Bryce, Slep. Fourth Row: Hanson, Colflesh, Fischer, Hummel, Staller, Biddle, Darone. A large group of women stands in four rows on the steps of Severance Gymnasium. They were all wearing skirts to mid-calf and blouses. They appear to be split fairly evenly between loafers and saddle shoes. While modern dance had been offered previously through W.A.A., this is the first time the name Orchesis has been attached to the group. The administrative head at the time was Kathleen Lowrie.
