The photo depicts Shirley Fry, runner-up in the National Women's Amateur Tennis Tournament, demonstrating a return shot. Miss Fry, who lived in Akron, came for a tennis clinic sponsored by the WAA board. This photo is in a section titled: " 'The Weaker Sex?' A Sport for Every Girl." It is in a section of photos and information for the Women's Athletic Association, p. 150; “For the females of the campus, there has been a wide variety of sports activities organized by the Women's Athletic Association. This year's programs included fourteen extra-curricular sports in addition to the special clinics and exhibitions. During the fall, golfers received a few pertinent tips from Claire Doran, Cleveland amateur player, and Peggy Kirk, a professional from Findlay. Tennis enthusiasts attended a tennis clinic keynoted by Shirley Fry. In a hockey battle with Wooster High School, the college team emerged triumphant, thanks to twice-weekly sessions." Shirley Fry was wearing an all white outfit. She had on a white shirt, a white skirt, white socks, and shoes. The administrative head at the time was Kathleen Lowrie.
