Black and Gold Basketball Teams, 1927-1928

Black_and_Gold_Basketball_Teams__19271928.jpg

The photo above is of six gold team and five black team members -one must be missing as they did play six a side. The players in the top row were in light tops with dark scarves and the bottom row players were in dark tops with light scarves. All had on sailor tops. The Gold Team consisted of March, Yocum, Frank, Gerig, Royer, Sheet. And the Black Team consisted of Martin, McClusky, Lehman, Scudder, Kerr. Each year, according to custom, two selected teams were styled Gold and Black respectively and matched against each other. These team members would be chosen annually as representative of the best basketball material from the three upper-class teams. But in this year, through some kind act of Providence abetting earnest effort, the Black team were victorious in the contest. The administrative head at the time was Kathleen Lowrie.
