The image features a group of women participating in archery. They were all in a line with their bows, and their arrow quivers were stuck in the ground near their feet. This was a recreational activity sponsored by W.R.A. The W.R.A. (Women's Recreation Association) was an organization sponsored by the Women's Physical Education Department, of which all women of the college are automatically members. This organization had, as its chief purpose, the provision of recreation for the college women through participation in sports such as hockey, archery, swimming, tennis, volleyball, basketball, fencing, synchronized swimming, badminton, and golf. Though recreation and enjoyment were the prime purposes of these programs, secondary purposes were equally important. These secondary elements concern the promotion of physical fitness through physical exercise and the opportunity to learn new sports and skills. The women were wearing shirts, blouses, sweaters, jackets, blazers, and long skirts with socks and shoes. The administrative head at the time was Maria Sexton.
