The image above features the tennis champion of the academic year 1928-1929. Tennis in Wooster was one of the most popular sports. Tennis tournaments were held both in the fall and in the spring. Tennis was not an inter-class affair, which allowed a chance for competition among individuals. Needless to say, the competition was great and highly enthusiastic. It also had its advantages, one of them being open to Freshmen. Miss Mary Alice Lehman was the champion at the time. She was a Senior and had the honor of holding that position twice before. Lemin,' as she was popularly known around the campus, was seen often on the courts, where she was a true representative of a champion and always demonstrated in her play the quality of high sportsmanship that made everyone admire her. She was wearing street clothes when the picture was taken. The administrative head at the time was Kathleen Lowrie.
