The photograph above is of Nan Nichols, who was women's Physical Education staff. This may have been Nichols first year on the staff. She is shown on the spiral staircase that leads down to Severance pool. She became the first basketball and swimming head coach at Wooster for the women, and she taught swimming courses in the physical education department. She went on to be the Director of Athletics for Women and to help establish both the Centennial Athletic Conference and the North Coast Athletic Conference in the 1980's. Nan is seen dressed in swimming cover-up. The administrative head at the time was Maria Sexton.
