Womens_Baseball_1931_Championship_Team.jpg

The photo is of seven women who were members of the 1931 baseball team. This may be the first time a baseball team has been pictured, although the women had a game as early as the 1800's when Hoover Cottage was built. In the spring of 1931, the Freshman baseball team defeated the Junior-Senior and the Sophomore teams. The Freshman manager was Grace Thayer. The other class managers were Margaret Myers, Virginia Anderson, and Helen Otis. This year Virginia Emch, of the Women's Athletic Board, is in charge of baseball and is planning a successful season. The women are dressed in street clothes- dresses, skirts. One woman has a sweater with 193 on the front. The administrative head at the time was Kathleen Lowrie.
