What Women Call Athletics', 1925-1926

What_Women_Call_Athletics__19251926.jpg

This collage of three photos is titled 'What Women Call Athletics.' One photo has a group of women sitting on a fence together under the caption "Keep Out." The women in the center had a sign, but it is hard to read. The middle photo is of the women playing hockey. The caption says "Slow?" There is a third photo on the right of a group of women sitting on a fence rail. "Just Restin'." This may play on several factors: separation of women, no men allowed, making fun of the women's sports of hockey and hiking. The title seems a bit antagonistic, making fun of the activities and how they were run. This collage was under the introductory section on women's athletics. The lead in for this page was an illustration of the Greek legend of Atalanta and Hippomenes. Some of the women had on knickers and some wore dresses as they pose for the hiking photos. The women playing hockey were wearing a variety of knickers and tunics. The administrative head at the time was Kathleen Lowrie.
