Unlike Men's Sports, Girl's [sic] Sports Still Active, 1943-44

The letter writes, “Back from Spring vacation and we are on the last lap. The girls' athletics have been quite prominent on campus this year—usual hikes to the cabin, intramurals in swimming, basketball, and volleyball plus an all-star game with Lake Erie. And golf tournaments and square dancing added variety to the program.” The drawing on the letter shows a woman wearing a skirt and sweater swinging a golf club and hitting herself in the head. There were two stars that float above her. The ball sits on a tee in front of her. It seems that this is again a typical portrayal of girls being inept at the sport. A positive plus a negative positioning of her at the same time. The Administrative Head at this time was Kathleen Lowrie.
